İktisat bilimi insanı tanımlamakla başlar ve iktisat teorisinde insanın tanımı, neo klasik iktisadın varsayımı olan “rasyonel insan” modeline göre yapılmaktadır. Rasyonel insan, kendisine en fazla faydayı sağlayacak seçimleri en uygun biçimde elde eden insan modelidir ancak insan ne yazık ki her zaman rasyonel değildir ve her insan bazen yanlış kararlar verebilmektedir. Bu durum iktisat teorisinin yanlış temeller üzerine kurulup kurulmadığını sorgulatmış, iktisadi olayları açıklamak için tıpkı iktisat bilimi gibi insanı konu alan psikoloji bilimine başvurulmuştur. İktisat ve psikolojiyi birleştiren davranışsal iktisat adı verilen bu yeni akım, insanların her zaman rasyonel olmadığını, kimi zaman çeşitli psikolojik ve sosyal nedenlerden dolayı tüketim kararları alırken irrasyonel veya sınırlı rasyonel davranarak kararlar alabileceğini açıklamaya çalışmaktır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, davranışsal iktisat çerçevesinde tüketicilerin internet üzerinden yapmış oldukları alışverişlerde rasyonel davranış sergileyip sergilemedikleri ölçülmeye çalışılacaktır ve bu bağlamda Mersin ilinde internet üzerinden alışveriş yapan 405 kişiye anket uygulanmıştır.

The rational man is the human model that makes the choices that will benefit him in a suitable way, but unfortunately, man is not always rational and every man can sometimes make wrong decisions. This situation questioned whether the theory of economics was founded on the wrong foundation, and the psychology that is subject to humanity, like the economics, was applied to the psychology to explain economic events. This new stream, called the behavioral economy that combines economics and psychology, is to try to explain that people are not always rational and can sometimes make decisions by making irrational or limited rational actions while making consumer decisions for various psychological and social reasons. The aim of this study will be to measure whether consumers show rational behavior in their online shopping in the context of the behavioral economy, and in this context the survey has been applied to 405 people who shop online in the Mersin province.
