Abstract:

The objective of this study is to design a 10,500 metres long bicycle road in the city center of Gümüşhane so that the bicycle can be used as a means of transport. A route has been determined taking into account the characteristics of the city and the current transport network structure. Thro the chosen route; the design of the bicycle routes has been prepared for implementation projects and approximate costs. Also, a face-to-face survey that covers the city center and the university campus has been conducted. In the framework of the survey, the public’s habits of cycling, opinions about the benefits of cycling and the obstacles facing it were tried to learn. The results of the survey were evaluated by Ki-Kare and Phi-Cramer V tests, which found significant relationships between the gender of participants and the use of bicycles, the level of training and the use of bicycles and the identification of bicycles. The cost of the designed bicycle road construction is 2,740,900 Turkish Lira (TL) and was about three times less compared to the cost of a single-band road. As a result, it has turned out that cycling is healthy, safe, economical, environmentally friendly and easily accessible. Due to these features, the use of bicycles has been seen as one of the most important solutions to urban transportation problems for sustainable transportation.
