Abstract:

Objectives: This study aimed to determine the level of knowledge and awareness of the national color codes of the Faculty of Health Sciences students who have clinical practice experience. Materials and Methods: The study was carried out in February-April 2020 with a total of 279 students studying in the nursing, audiology, physiotherapy and rehabilitation department of the faculty of health sciences of a university in Ankara. In the study, which was approved by the ethics committee and was of descriptive cross-sectional type, the "Descriptive Characteristics Form" and "National Colored Codes Questionnaire in Health" prepared by the researchers were used as data collection tools and written consent was obtained from the students. The analysis of the data in the study was analyzed using the SPSS 22.0 statistical program. Results: The mean age of the participants was 20.96± 1,232, and 61.6% (n=172) were nursing students and 5.7% (n=16) were graduates of health vocational high schools. It was determined that 28.0% (n=78) of the students participating in the study received training on emergency codes, 71.7% (n=200) of the students, while those who received training had a high level of awareness about the subject at a statistically significant level (p<0.05). The majority of the students agreed that the national color codes are necessary (80.7%) to ensure order and security in the hospital and are a team effort (83.0%). National color code knowledge scores of nursing department students are statistically significantly higher than other departments (p<0.05). Conclusion: Within the framework of the results obtained, it is necessary to develop the knowledge and awareness of the students of faculty of health sciences about the national color codes. For this reason, common compulsory courses related to the subject can be integrated into the curriculum.
