COMPARISON OF THE ATTITUDES OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS IN TOURISM EDUCATION AND UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS IN SPORTS SCIENCE EDUCATION TOWARDS SPORTS TOURISM

Abstract:

The aim of this research is to compare the attitudes of tourism education undergraduate students who are likely to work in the sports and tourism sectors and sports science undergraduate students towards sports tourism. The research was conducted using the quantitative research method. Questionnaire technique was preferred as data collection method in the research. Research data were collected using the 'Scale of Attitude Towards Sport Tourism' developed by Tezcan and Sadık (2018). The research scale was applied face to face to the students in the fall semester of the 2018-2019 academic year. To research; 806 students in total participated voluntarily, 408 students studying tourism and 398 students studying sports sciences at a state university. The research data were analyzed using the statistical package program SPSS 22. Research data were analyzed using tests such as T-test and one-way ANOVA. Attitudes of undergraduate students studying tourism and undergraduate students studying sports sciences towards sports tourism; gender, branch, age, income level, class, etc. analyzed on the basis of the variables and a comparison was made over the department variable. When the attitudes of tourism education undergraduate students and sports science undergraduate students towards sports tourism are examined; It was observed that there were statistically significant differences in the variables of department, gender, sports branch, and income level. There was no significant difference in terms of age, class and sports tourism course variable. In the study, it was determined that undergraduate students studying sports sciences had higher attitudes towards sports tourism than undergraduate students receiving tourism education. Turkey has a very important sports tourism potential due to its geopolitical location, being surrounded by seas and having natural resources. In the research; for the development of tourism and sports, it is recommended that students be developed socially, mentally, physically and spiritually, and receive quality education in the field of sports tourism. For the development of sports tourism, sports tourism courses should be added especially for students studying tourism and sports sciences.
