Abstract:

The goal of this descriptive study is to explore the relationship between communication skills and aggression of the sportsmen dealing with hockey. The target population of the current study consisted of males and females, who are currently playing in Turkey Hockey Federation. As to the sample, 261 (129 males, 132 females) hockey players, who participated in open field hockey Champions League Competition 2013 organized by the Hockey Federation of Turkey in Ankara, voluntarily participated in this study. Communication skills scale developed by Korkut (1996) and aggression inventory developed by Kiper (1984) were used as data collection tools. The collected data was analyzed through the use of SPSS 16.0 program. As a result, the communication skills of the male and female hockey players who participated in our study were high in general. However, their destructive aggression and passive aggression scores were below the average. Besides, their communication skills increased as well as their assertiveness behavior. In fact, while their communication skills increased their aggression and passive behaviour decreased. In conclusion the study showed that the destructive aggression increased, as a consequence of the increase of passive behaviour
