The aim of this study is to examine the thoughts and experiences of the teaching staff of the Department of Primary Mathematics Teaching about the use of materials in mathematics teaching, and to determine the level of the activities in the classroom with the use of materials. The sample of the study consists of 11 lecturers working in the department of elementary mathematics teaching. The data of the study were collected by means of interviews and the data were analyzed by content analysis. In this context, the phenomenology of qualitative research design was used in the study. With the analysis of the research findings, it was found that the teaching staff found the use of materials in mathematics teaching lessons helpful. However, it has been concluded that the using of materials by the instructors is limited due to reasons such as the inadequacy of the time, the content of the mathematics program, and the fact that the students have not used material before, they cannot use technological tools. All faculty members agree that the use of material and learning by doing, as in all other areas, increases persistence in mathematics teaching.
