Dominion is a term that has had a great influence on the thinking of many of the Islamic sects. This influence has been at the point of extremity. It has also been present in Western cultures that exalt the position of man and deny God's sovereignty after the universe's creation. Some went to the extreme and denied the existence of God and divine sovereignty. Muhammad Imara (1931-2020) was raised in a religious environment and was familiar with Western culture. He memorized the Koran at a young age and studied Islamic law and philosophy at the Dar al-Aulum. He earned his master's and doctorate in philosophy. He cared a great deal about the Qur'an and the terms it contains, so he addressed these issues in his works. He has dealt with the origins and history of these terms and refuted the doubts and allegations made from within the Islamic world and by Westerners. Muhammad Imara bases his approach on the Holy Qur'an, Islamic heritage, and world intellectual heritage. The correct use of terms is a major theme in his work in general, as the correct and appropriate use of terms plays an important role in communication and understanding. These terms represent the direction of an idea to convey human perception and are important in the formation and determination of many factors such as time, space, civilization, language, religion, tradition, and history. Recognizing the importance of liberating terms in our time, Muhammad Imara has published separate studies on common terms and provided definitions for some other terms. The motivation behind this is the misuse he has observed and seen in the use of these terms between ancient and modern schools of thought. With the rise of controversy and cultural conflicts between the West and the Islamic world and the issues of orientalism and intellectual invasion, the importance of liberating terms that express the complex and equally confusing problems of Arab and Western societies becomes apparent. These problems range across political, social, and doctrinal issues. Muhammad Imara has adopted a comparative cultural methodology to converge approaches and correct misunderstandings about terms. The term sovereignty is one of the most important terms that Muhammad Imara deals with and is prominent in his work on liberating his concepts, explaining the causes of misunderstandings and how to deal with them, and it has occupied a prominent place in most of his writings. The importance of this study is related to Muhammad Imara's position on the Islamic scene and his role in dialoguing with others and seeking the roots of an innovative vision in relation to the heritage. There is also the importance of the term "Dominion" in Islam and its obvious influence on the thinking of some sects, especially in the modern era where it has been revitalized. Therefore, the research aims to draw attention to this term in the writings of Muhammad Imara. Muhammad Imara focused on the origin of the term in the language and its meaning in the Qur'anic usage as well as in the practices of the Prophet and the Companions. He also draws attention to the source of misunderstandings and their influence on history, especially in the writings of Mawdudi and Sayyid Qutb. He has given a scientifically accurate account of what sovereignty means when attributed to Allah and when attributed to man. Allah's sovereignty is absolute sovereignty because He has absolute power. Human sovereignty, on the other hand, is limited because of the limitations of their abilities. Human sovereignty exists as a gift from Allah to human beings in order for man to be Allah's caliph on earth and to manage the affairs of social life within the framework of divine law. This study is divided into two parts. The first part provides information about the life and intellectual formation of Dr. Muhammad Imara. The second part is about the topic of sovereignty in Imara's thoughts. It deals with issues related to the origin and derivation of the term sovereignty and the diversity of its aims and influences adopted by its proponents. In order to realize the objectives of the research, and to present various aspects of the subject, it is necessary to follow the descriptive-analytical method.
