The aim of this study is to develop a valid and reliable scale towards determining the students’ awareness about the substance addiction. For this aim, initial items are prepared in the light of literature and the draft scale was prepared by taking the expert opinion. Then, this draft scale, which was a five-point Likert type, applied to totally 230 students, which are studying in the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades of a secondary school in Erzurum. In the validity studies of the scale, the result of the item analysis, the exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the scale has a construct of 4 factors with 27 items and the total variance explained was 43.99%. And also, the results from confirmatory factor analysis indicated that this construct adjusts very well to this construct's sample data. In addition, the scale's internal consistency reliability coefficient was found as .882 for the whole scale. Those results showed that this instrument is a valid and reliable measurement tool for determining the students’ awareness about substance addiction.
