The important role extensive reading plays in developing the linguistic skills and world knowledge of the learners has been emphasized by researchers. Although extensive reading, by itself, is not sufficient for the development of fluent reading comprehension abilities, such abilities cannot be developed without extensive reading. However, learners in foreign language settings, like Turkey, generally do little reading in English beyond course requirements.
