Geçmişten günümüze hayatımızın vazgeçilmez bir parçası olan iletişimin boyutları yeni iletişim teknolojileri sayesinde çeşitlenerek farklı noktalara ulaşmıştır. Özellikle iletişim araç ve gereçlerinin gelişim gösterdiği 21. yy’da yeni bir iletişim aracı olarak sosyal paylaşım ağları kullanılmaktadır. Sosyal ağların gün geçtikçe kullanıcı sayısı da arttığından toplumun bütün alanlarında (sosyo-ekonomik, siyasal, eğitim vb.) köklü değişimlere yol açmıştır. Bu köklü değişim sadece toplum ve bireyler üzerinde değil, global düzeyde de oldukça etkili olmaktadır.
Bu çalışma sosyal medya ağlarının kamuoyu oluşturma gücü ve etkisini genç bireyler özelinde araştırmaktadır. Bu bağlamda sosyal medya kullanım alanları ve alışkanlıkları ile bunların siyasî anlamda hangi düzeyde ne kadar etkili olduğunun ortaya çıkarılması çalışmanın temel amacını oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın örneklemini Irak’ın Erbil kentindeki basit rastgele örnekleme ile seçilen 486 sayıda sosyal medya kullanıcısı oluşturmaktadır. Katılımcılara araştırmanın amacına uygun olarak geliştirilen soruların yer aldığı soru anket formu yöneltilmiştir. Verilen yanıtlardan elde edilen verilere göre nicel analizler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bireylere ait yaş grupları, cinsiyetleri, eğitim bilgileri bazında verilen cevapların istatistiksel olarak anlamlı farklılık gösterip göstermediğini analiz etmek amacıyla t testi uygulanmıştır. Yapılan analizlere göre bu araştırmanın sonucunda Erbil’deki genç sosyal medya kullanıcıları üzerinde, sosyal medyanın siyasi yönden rolü olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
The dimensions of communication, which are an integral part of our lives from the past to the present day, have varied through new communication technologies and reached different points. Social networking is used as a new means of communication in the 21st century, especially when communication tools and tools are developed. The number of users of social networks is increasing on a daily basis in all areas of society (socio-economic, political, educational, etc.). It has led to radical changes. This radical change is very influential not only on society and individuals, but also globally.
This study investigates the power and impact of social media networks to create the public in particular to young individuals. In this context, the main objective of the study is to identify the fields and habits of social media use and how effective they are in the political sense. The sample of the study is made by 486 social media users selected by a simple random sample in the Iraqi city of Erbil. The question form that included the questions developed in accordance with the purpose of the research was addressed to the participants. According to the data obtained from the given answers, quantitative analyses have been carried out. The t test was implemented in order to analyze whether the answers given on the basis of the age groups, gender, educational information of individuals showed statistically significant differences. According to the analysis, this research has found that on young social media users in Erbil, social media has a political role.

A questionnaire form including questions developed in accordance with the purpose of the research was directed to the participants. Quantitative analyzes were carried out according to the data obtained from the answers given. The t-test was applied to analyze whether the answers given on the basis of age groups, genders and educational information of individuals showed statistically significant differences. According to the analysis, as a result of this research, it has been determined that social media has a political role on young social media users in Erbil.
