Oxygen consumption (VO2) has been of great value in the functional evaluation of athletes. Although football and futsal are sports with gestures similar engines, the differences in the dimensions of the local dynamics of the game generate distinct physiological demands. The present study aimed to make a comparison of the oxygen consumption, anaerobic threshold, body mass index and heart rate maxima between professional athletes in football and futsal. Voluntarily participated in 38 male subjects, with 19 football players and 19 football athletes. Statistically significant differences for the variables MHR, anaerobic threshold and ventilatory threshold speed 1 among the groups were found, however resemble the values of maximum oxygen intake, anthropometric measurements and speed at the point of respiratory compensation.
