Those who are enthusiastic for being a member of Parliament and are introduced to the voters’ agenda for election are called ‘candidates’. One can independently be a candidate or through a political party membership. Independent candidacy can be gained by either the own will of the person concerned or by nomination of a group of voters. It is rather diffi cult to get elected independently. Currently, in democracies, choosing the individuals is of equal importance as it is the case in choosing the political parties. The independent candidates, when getting involved in the election process, participate in the administration of the country and thus fi nd the opportunity to have a say. The possibility as to the eligibility of the independent candidates is closely related to the election system itself. The study deals with the independent candidacy in general and sheds light on the candidate designation process and the other mechanisms applied. The study generally deals with the independent candidacy during the general elections, however does not touch upon the candidacy regulations as to the administrative law and the related local elections
