Abstract:

The aim of this study is to identify the factors that influence academics’ intentions to participate in congress tourism in the context of Planned Behavior Theory. It is also to identify the attitudes of academics towards the behavior, the behavior that occurs, the behavior control they perceive, and the levels of subjective standards regarding participation in congress tourism. The universe of research is formed by academics who work at universities in Turkey. Since it is not possible to reach all the participants that make the universe due to both time and cost, a sample within this universe has been chosen. The selected sample consists of academics who work at universities in Bartın, Düzce, Karabük, Bolu, Kastamonu, Zonguldak and Sinop, located in the Western Black Sea Department. The survey form was implemented by e-mail, 367 data were obtained and on these data; reliability analysis, explanatory factor analysis, frequency analysis, correlation and regression analysis were applied. According to the research findings, the attitudes, behaviors and subjective standards of people participating in congress tourism significantly affect their intentions to participate in congress tourism (0,89) . The result is that there is no meaningful relationship between the two behavioral controls and behavioral intentions perceived while affecting their behavioral attitudes and subjective norms in a meaningful and positive direction; and that the behavioral intention has a meaningful and positive impact on the behavior that occurs.
