Sanayi Devrimi ile Avrupa’da temelleri atılan varoluşçuluk savaşların, ölümlerin çağı 20. yüzyılda iki dünya savaşının arkasından yaşanan yıkımın tesiriyle tüm dünyaya yayılır. Varlığın özden önce geldiğini savunup bireyin biricikliğini ön plana çıkaran Kierkegaard, Heidegger, Sartre, Marcel, Jaspers gibi varoluşçu filozofların ele aldığı yalnızlık, yabancılaşma, bunaltı, korku, kaygı, öfke, ölüm, iç sıkıntısı gibi ortak meseleler merkezine insan gerçekliğini yerleştiren edebiyatta da yankı bulur. Türk edebiyatında 1950-1960 arası Türk öykücülerinin yoğun ilgi gösterdiği akım, bu kuşağın etkisinde kalan Sevgi Soysal’ın bireyden toplumsala evrilen sanat çizgisinin bütüncül olarak takip edilebildiği son öykü kitabı Barış Adlı Çocuk’ta (1976) ele alınan izleklere de yansır. Bu çalışmada eserdeki hikâyeler varoluşçuluk anlayışının izinde, dört ana başlık altında değerlendirilmeye çalışılmıştır.
Existentialism, the foundations of which were laid in Europe with the industrial revolution, spread to the whole world with the effect of the destruction experienced after the two world wars in the 20th century which is the age of wars and deaths. Common issues such as loneliness, alienation, disturbance, fear, anxiety, anger, death, and boredom dealt with by existentialist philosophers such as Kierkegaard, Heidegger, Sartre, Marcel and Jaspers, who argue that existence comes before essence and emphasize the uniqueness of the individual was to find an echo in literature, which places human reality at its center. This trend of existentialism, which storytellers of Turkish literature showed great interest between 1950-1960, is also reflected in the themes discussed in the Sevgi Soysal’s last story “A Child Named Barış” (1976) in which the art line of the author, who was under the influence of this generation, evolved from the individual to the social, in a holistic manner. In this study, the stories in the book will be evaluated under four main parts, in the footsteps of existentialism.
