Epilepsy is a neurological disease that negatively affects the quality of life of patients. Both medical and psychological factors have a significant impact on the psychosocial functions of epilepsy patients. Epilepsy is defined by the presence of repeated attacks, but causes significant problems in the cognitive, psychological, intellectual and social functions of the individual. In epilepsy patients, psychosocial problems are more common than in the general population. In epilepsy individuals there are psychological problems such as anxiety, depression, and problems such as reduced self-respect, social isolation, falling in school success, unemployment, and decreased quality of life. Psychosocial factors also cause behavioral and cognitive disorders. Stigma is one of the major problems that epilepsy patients face and is the cause of hiding the frequent illness of patients. Stigmatism, distinction, and the predictive attitudes of the community towards epileptic patients can hurt the epileptic patients more than the disease itself. Therefore, the etiology, treatment and prevention of psychosocial problems in epilepsy is of great importance. In the management of the disease, the effective use of antiepileptic therapy, as well as consultation, education, cognitive behavioral therapy, social support for the patient and his family is important. The purpose of this collection is to provide information about the psychosocial problems that many patients with epilepsy experience and the strategies and measures to be taken in the individual, family and society to address these problems.
