Abstract:

Legends are short stories that are told about real or imaginary person, events and places. Though these stories often occur extraordinary events, the characteristic of being convincing of the stories is heavy. Through this characteristic of the legends being convincing, a number of moral values and patterns of behavior are brought to society. In this regard, legends are didactic stories and have a educational function of society. Some of the legends are surrounded by the “Veli Cult”. The ancestors are the kinds that are weaponsed with superior spiritual forces, showing various charities while living or after death. In the legends surrounded by the Veli culture, the keramets shown by the parents are the main motives of the legends. This article focuses on the legends of the guardians believed to have participated in the war by climbing very far distances at the same time or at two separate locations at the same time and that they the Turkish army and the army to win the war with this occasion. In these legends it is told that the guardians participated in wars such as the Balkan Wars, the Çanakkale Wars, the Liberation Wars, the Korean Wars, and the Cyprus Wars, fighting with the Turkish soldiers. When this kind of legends are studied, we can say that the legends are rejoiced with similar patterns and motives, and that these patterns and motives in the social memory are adapted to the different wars in which the Turkish society lives. In the article, the legends of the guardians who participated in the war with the tayy-i place were studied in terms of structure and content, taking examples from verbal and written sources.
