Abstract:

In this study, the effect of parental attitudes on the social value acquisition of preschool children was examined. In the study conducted using the relational screening model, the study group consisted of 210 children attending pre-school education institution and their mothers (n=210). Data on the children were collected by applying the scale individually, and data on the parents were collected by the scales applied to the mothers. In data collection Parental Attitude Scale, Assessment of Parenting Attitudes of Couples Scale and Preschool Social Value Acquisition Scale were used. Pearson correlation coefficient and regression analysis was used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the research, it was determined that as the democratic attitude of the mothers increased, the acquisition of the cooperation value of the children increased. It was found that as the fathers’ over-tolerant attitude increased, the children’s responsibility value and social value acquisition in general increased, and the children’s kindness value acquisition increased as their democratic attitude increased. It was found that mother’s attitudes did not predict children’s social value acquisition, but fathers’ attitudes towards their children, and especially their over-tolerant attitudes, predicted children’s social value acquisition. The results obtained from the study were discussed with the existing literature and suggestions were developed for parents, teachers and researchers.
