Abstract:

The gardening of the Middle East is dominated by the planometric philosophy of the living areas of historic cities in the southeast of Turkey. In our country, the use of local houses as a source of inspiration for gardening space in the design and production of new houses is not so common. The new houses produced in the Suriçi settlement of Diyarbakır are one of the limited examples in this area. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the garden houses produced within the historic environment both in terms of local organization and form. This assessment draws attention to the differences between traditional houses and newly produced houses in terms of climate details and privacy measures, and brings light on the details to be taken into consideration in newly produced houses. This study also emphasizes the points where the traditional garden space organization applied in new houses is far from fully meeting the user needs.
