Abstract:

In recent years interest on non-financial data of companies increased in addition to their financial data and especially their environmental and social impact became issues of concern. All these developments lead to reporting of non-financial data and creation of standards in this field. In this framework, globally used sustainable reporting frameworks and standards such as INCR, GRI, and CDP emerged. ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance-ESG) reports share sustainability applications of companies with the public. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the Sustainability Compliance Framework Reports published for the first time as of 2022 for traded companies in the stock market with the principle of agree or explain, in terms of form and content, and to identify similarities and differences. Thus, Sustainability Compliance Framework Reports of 12 banks in BIST BANKA index are investigated. As a result of the study, 10 of the 12 banks in the index were determined to issue Sustainability Compliance Framework Report. Upon investigation of the reports, 10 banks that issue Sustainability Compliance Framework Reports made a detailed explanation, and 2 banks were determined to make a detailed explanation on their state of compliance with principles. Reporting revealed that there are differences among banks and creation of a standard format is required.
