Abstract:

Introduction: The application of the transforaminal epidural steroid injection reduces the complaint of back and leg pain and allows you to return to daily activity. In our study we studied the application of transforaminal epidural steroid injection widely applied for the treatment of lombary spinal stenosis, and we revealed our experience in the diagnostic approach in lombary spinal stenosis. Method: Our study included 37 patients in our clinic between June 2014 and June 2018 with transforaminal epidural steroid injection with phase B lombary spinal stenosis diagnosis. Patients are 2 weeks before and after the application and 3/6. The Oswestry Disability Index and Visual Analog Scale. A year after the operation, the surgical treatment was examined. Results: The average Visual Analog Scale of patients was 5.1±0.3 before application, 2.7±0.1 after two weeks, 2.8±0.2 after 3 months and 3.1±0.1 after 6 months. The improvement in the Visual Analog Scale was found to be statistically meaningful 2 weeks later than before application and the change in the 3 and 6 months in a row. The average Oswestry Disability Index was 29.6±0.4, 14.1±0.3, 15.3±0.5, 24.4±0.2 after 2 weeks before and after application, 3.6 months after. The Oswestry Disability Index has also been found to be statistically meaningful as previously applied. The result: Transforaminal epidural steroid injection is a safe application for non-chirurgical treatment of lombal spinal stenosis and this application can be preferred as a support for the diagnosis of surgery of lombal spinal stenosis.
