Abstract:

Corruption is one of the most important problems facing developed and developing countries. It is among the most important problems that negatively affect public health spending and performance. This study examines the relationship between health spending and corruption using Autoregressive Distributed Latency (ARDL) and the Dynamic Error Correction Model (ECM) with data from the World Bank, PRS /ICRG, and IMF for the period 1984-2019. The Lee-Strazizitch unit root test with structural break shows that the variables are affected by structural breaks. The empirical results show that corruption in Turkey increases health expenditures in the short and long run. In the long run, a negative relationship was observed between real GDP, urban growth rate, carbon emissions, the annual percentage change of CPI, and health expenditure. The research findings suggest that increasing social welfare and health spending depends on economic stability and fighting corruption.
