Abstract:

It is a concept that has long discussions about democracy that means people's governance. Democracy, which has gained value every day from its appearance to the present day, is experienced in different forms according to the cultural characteristics of societies. Thus, although theoretical requirements are the same, the practice is different. The life of democracy, as societies contribute to the political culture, the political culture codes also shape democracy. In Turkey, democracy that arises parallel to modernization efforts, despite some shortcomings, has a historical background of more than a century. This study tries to reveal the peculiar qualities of Turkish democratic culture. The study, with a critical approach, focuses on the "perception of democracy" in political and social life. The aim of the study in Turkey is to create a socio-political perspective by identifying the problems of democracy in Turkey.
