Abstract:

Purpose: This study aims to determine the type, frequency and causes of violence which the doctors who work in the province of Samsun are exposed to because of their professions and their thoughts on the prevention of violence. Tools and Methods: The data of this research in the identificative quality, the ethical board approval and written corporate permits were collected from 865 doctors who worked in the Samsun province and participated voluntarily in the research between 01.06.2013-30.11.2013 through the survey form and the face-to-face interview technique. The obtained data was evaluated with the SPSS statistical program (Version 13.0), identifying statistics and the frame analysis were used in the analysis. Results: 587 of the 865 doctors who participated in the study (67.8%) found that at least once during their work life, 86.4 percent of them experienced oral violence, 74.4 percent of the patient's relatives and 38.9 percent of the patient's relatives, 81.4 percent of the attacker was male, and 43.9 percent of them experienced violence because they denied unfair wishes. 72.3% of the doctors who participated in the study stated that doctors were exposed to violence due to the fact that they were responsible for negative health systems in general, and 79.6% said that legal sanctions on violence against doctors in our country should be rearranged in order to prevent violence. The result: As it is essential in many protective medical approaches, violence should also be prevented without occurring.
