Education is the whole of social processes that will meet all kind of needs of individuals of all ages, such as knowledge, experience, skill acquisition and personality development, and therefore every individual has the right to receive education freely. The realization of a free education, which means that the individual can receive education without being subject to any restrictions, is possible with the concept of “universal design”. The concept of universal design aims to develop a common design phenomenon by taking into account the physical, sensory, perceptual and talent differences of each individual. Education and higher education institutions have important duties in the context of creating free educational environment. The aim of this study is to examine examples of university campuses in the world and in Turkey within the scope of universal design and accessibility and to develop suggestions for providing accessibility in university campuses. Within the scope of the study, problems related to accessibility in higher education institutions, the importance of which cannot be denied for all individuals in the society, were determined, university campus examples in the world and in Turkey were examined with the literature research on universal design and accessible campus, and suggestions were presented to ensure accessibility in university campuses.
