The survival rates of premature and low-weight newborns have increased because of improving science and technology in healthcare. The nurses who work in newborn units, which are often complicated due to the required knowledge of advanced technology, careful observation and quick decision-making, often face ethical problems. While newborns ideally have the right to be resuscitated and the right to live, complicated ethical problems can arise because newborns do not have any judgement about themselves. As a result, parents and healthcare professionals could face ethical dilemmas when they have to make decisions on behalf of the newborn.
