Abstract:

Aim: The present study aimed at investigating the effects of physical education and sports eachers' ethical dilemmas on their zest for work levels by some demographic characteristics. Method: This is a descriptive study deploying a correlational design. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 142 physical education and sports teachers, of whom 35% (n=50) were females, 65% (n=92) were males, employed within the Ministry of National Education in Istanbul, Küçükçekmece. The sample was selected with the convenience sampling method. In the research, the “School Ethical Dilemmas Scale (S-EDS)” developed by Erdoğan, (2018) was used to measure the ethical dilemmas experienced by physical education and sports teachers in schools. The “Zest for Work Scale (ZWS)” developed by Erdoğan, (2013) was used to measure zest for work levels of physical education and sports teachers. The research data were analyzed using the SPSS 21.0 program. The Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient was calculated to determine the relationships among ages and seniority of physical education and sports teachers and their ethical dilemma and zest for work levels. T-test was used to compare their ethical dilemma and zest for work levels by gender and the grade the institution where they serve. The significance level was taken as p <.05 in all statistical analyses. Findings: The findings of the study revealed that there was a negative and significant relationship between zest for work and ethical dilemma levels of physical education and sports teachers. However, no significant relationship was found among zest for work and ethical dilemma levels of physical education and sports teachers and their ages and seniority. There was also no significant difference between zest for work and ethical dilemma levels of physical education and sports teachers by their gender and the grade of the institution where they serve. Conclusion: Overall, it was concluded that the increase of zest for work levels of physical education and sports teachers leads to a decrease in their ethical dilemma levels or vice versa.
