Abstract:

This study aimed to examine the psychological well-being levels of the care staff working in child homes in terms of diverse variables. Purposeful sampling method was used in the study and 505 care staff (442 women, 63 men) working in child homes in NUTS 2 (26 sub-regions) provinces representing Turkey constituted the sample of the study. The research data were collected with the “Voluntary Participation Form”, “Information Form” and “Psychological Well-Being Scale”. Independent Groups t-test and One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the study, it was found that the psychological well-being levels of the care staff differed significantly according to the age of the care staff, whether they met the emotional needs of their children, the frequency of having problems with their children, whether they received psychological support in the past, the frequency of participation in sports activities, and their level of knowledge about child development and education. In addition, the psychological well-being levels of the care staff differed significantly according to the working time in the child homes, the level of meeting the emotional needs of the children in the child homes, the frequency of having problems with the children which are responsible for in the child homes, but it was concluded that the psychological well-being levels of the care staff working in the child homes did not differ significantly according to the gender, education level, and chronic illness of the care staff. Findings were discussed in line with the literature and suggestions were presented.
