Abstract:

Complete and alternative types of use in children with allergic disease
2020
Author:
Abstract:

This study was conducted with the aim of determining the supplementary and alternative medicine (TAT) applications used in children with allergic disease. The sample of the study is made by the mothers (n=150) of children followed in the child allergy clinic of a university hospital between 1 July and 31 December 2019. The data is collected by the Child and Parental Promotion Form and the Form relating to the Use of Complementary Care Applications. The survey found that 46.0% of the mothers who participated in the study used TAT and 39.7% of them used TAT to provide treatment support, while 88.7% did not inform the health staff about the use of TAT. 36.4 percent of parents using TAT have found that they prefer natural/plants as the TAT method. Parents with allergic disease (p≤0.001) and diagnosis-related education (p≤0.001) in their daughters have been found to use more TATs. In this regard, it may be recommended to investigate the use of TAT in the patient assessment and encourage parents to inform the health staff about the TAT practices they use.

2020
Author:
Abstract:

This study was carried out to determine the complementary and alternative medicine methods (CAMs) used in children with allergic diseases. The sample of the study consists of the mothers (n = 150) of the children who were followed up between July 1 and December 31, 2019 in a child allergy polyclinic of a university hospital. The data were collected through the Child and Parent Identification Form and the Form on the Use of Complementary Care Practices. In the study; 46.0% of the mothers participating in the study used CAM and 39.7% of them used CAM to support the treatment and 88.7% did not inform healthcare personnel about the use of CAM. Of parents who use CAM; 36.4% prefer natural / herbal products as CAM methods. It was found that parents with allergic diseases in their daughters (p≤0.001) and receiving training on diagnosis (p≤0.001) used more CAM. Accordingly, it may be suggested to investigate the use of CAM in patient assessment and encourage parents to inform healthcare staff about the CAMs they use.
