Infants with low birth weight have high rates of morbidity and mortality. Most of the factors affecting these rates are preventable reasons. Identification of these causes is important for public health. Therefore, the aim of the planned study is to identify the factors associated with the low birth weight rate, the low birth weight and the birth weight in a university hospital. The data of the study in the identificative quality were collected by applying the survey to women who gave birth between August 17, 2018 and February 17, 2019. In the study, 726 babies were evaluated. The average birth weight of babies is 3221.65 ± 506.65 grams, and the low birth weight of babies is 7.7%. Women who smoke during pregnancy have a low birth weight rate of 10%. For those who don’t drink, this rate is 7.1%. In the case of a passive drunk, the baby was found to be 125 grams lighter. Women with hypertension in pregnancy, underweight, psychological or physical trauma, unplanned pregnancy and having education at the primary education level have a high rate of low birth weight baby birth. As a result, the low birth weight infants rate in the study is lower than the average in Turkey. Factors that cause lower birth weight and lower birth pounds have been found to be preventable.
