INTRODUCTION: This study was conducted to investigate attitude towards evidence based nursing and perceptions of barriers to using research of nurses working in surgical clinics. METHODS: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted between April to August 2017. The study included 186 nurses who are working to three hospitals surgery clinics in the western of Turkey. The data were collected with the Personal Information Form, Attitude towards Evidence Based Nursing Questionnaire (AEBNQ) and The Barriers Scale (BS). Statistical analyses were performed using descriptive statistics, Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Walles test. RESULTS: The mean age of the nurses were 33.94±6.96 years, 85.5% for women and 62.9% in surgical clinics. Usage evidence-based practice was 40.3%. The mean scores from the scales were: AEBNQ: 57.14±8.27, and BS: 67.92±19.35. When the barriers to the use of research results by nurses were examined, it was found that there was not enough time to read the research in the workplace (75.3%), not enough opportunity for nursing practices (62.4%). DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Surgical nurses' attitudes towards evidence-based nursing were positive. However, it was determined that the majority of the nurses did not have enough knowledge about evidence-based practices and did not know the resources they could reach the evidence about nursing practices.
