Abstract:

Since its establishment, Turkey has formed the basic principles of its foreign policy in connection with the arguments of public diplomacy, which is an important instrument of soft power. The national unity and national economy-based domestic and foreign policy carried out during the period of Atatürk, actually reflects the essence of the concept called public diplomacy today. Because public diplomacy includes the values that can be promoted and the success stories that can be introduced, as well as the steps taken to reach the values that can be promoted, the investments made and the successes achieved. In this respect, public diplomacy is not only a foreign policy tool, but also a complementary of domestic policy. It does not seem possible for a state and society that cannot be self-sufficient inside and does not have an independent economy on the axis of national unity to have a strong and effective external voice. Considering the basic dynamics of the domestic and foreign policy carried out in Atatürk's period; on the one hand, we witness the works carried out to have an economy that is not dependent on foreign countries and a self-sufficient production and development model and on the other hand we see public diplomacy policies aimed at establishing prestige and power. This harmony of domestic and foreign policy brought success in both areas.
