Ülkelerin bir önceki dönemlerine göre kapasitelerinde meydana gelen artışlar o ülkelerin ekonomik büyümelerinin hızlarını göstermektedir. Dış ticaret genel olarak uluslararası mal ticaretini kapsamaktadır. Bunun yanı sıra hizmet ticaretini, yatırım gelir ve giderlerini, cari işlemleri, mal ithalat ve ihracatını kapsar. Dış ticaret kalemleri ihracat ve ithalat işlemlerinden oluşmaktadır. Dış ticarette temel hedef ihracatı arttırmak ve ithalatı kısmaktır. Bu doğrultuda dış ticaret politikaları oluşturulmuştur. Dış ticarette temel güdü ekonomik büyümeyi ve kalkınmayı sağlamaktır. Türkiye ekonomisinde dış ticaret politikaları 1980 öncesi ve sonrası olmak üzere iki farklı döneme ayrılmaktadır. 1980 öncesi dönemde dış ticarette ithal ikameye dayalı korumacı politikalar uygulanmıştır. Bu çalışmada ithalat ve ekonomik büyüme ilişkisine değinilmiş ve Türkiye ekonomisinin 2000-2019 yılları arasındaki ithalat ve GSYH çeyreklik veri setleri kullanılarak ekonometrik analiz yapılmıştır. Veriler arasındaki nedenselliğin yönünü belirlemek için Granger nedensellik testi yapılmıştır.

The main motivation in foreign trade is to ensure economic growth and development. The foreign trade policy in the Turkish economy is divided into two different periods, before and after 1980. This study focused on the relationship between import and economic growth and the economic analysis of the Turkish economy was carried out using the import and GDP quarterly data sets between the years 2000-2019. The Granger causality test was conducted to determine the direction of causality between the data.
