Abstract:

This study aimed to improve the learning of the concept of place value in natural numbers of a third-grade primary school student with learning difficulties in mathematics through an action plan prepared based on the creative drama method. Action research, one of the qualitative research designs, was used in the study. It was conducted in the fall semester of 2023-2024 in the 3rd grade of a public primary school and worked with a participant with learning difficulties in mathematics. During the action research process, a semi-structured interview form, observation form and achievement test were applied. The study results revealed that using creative drama techniques in mathematics lessons can support the learning of students with math learning difficulties by increasing their motivation and self-confidence. Based on the results of the research, it is recommended that studies to overcome learning difficulties in mathematics lessons should be carried out for more extended periods, the materials to be used in the process should be diversified, and teaching with games and technological devices should be used in addition to drama.
