Abstract:

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to study the motivation of university students to participate in physical activity during the pandemic period in terms of age, gender, income status, spending time to play and the variables of the place in which they live. The universe of study is formed by the students of the Faculty of Eastern Sports Sciences of the University of Onto May. With the random sampling method of the study, 165 men and 163 women from four separate departments consisted of a total of 328 students. The study applied to the students of the Faculty of Sports Sciences, the validity and reliability study by Iron and Cicioğlu, the "Motivation Scale for Participation in Physical Activity" and the demographic information form. Because the data was collected through Google Forms, participants were based on voluntary participation in the research. The data collected was analyzed using the SPSS 22 package program. Because the data showed normal distribution, it was used Independence T Test and Single-Sight Variance Analysis. The homogeneity of the data was made with the Scheffe test and the Post-Hoc Multiple Comparison Test. The statistical values were taken to be assessed at a 95% confidence range and at the significance levels of p<0,05 and p<0,01. There was no significant difference between the motivation to participate in physical activity depending on gender, age, place of residence, and the condition of the time allocated by the participants (p>0,05). The motivation to participate in physical activity depending on the income of the participants has shown significant differences in the sub-dimensions of the individual cause, uncertainty and the sub-dimensional total score (p<0,05). As a result, the age, gender and the condition of taking time to exercise of the participants did not affect the motivation to participate in physical activity. Participants’ only financial income affects the motivation to participate in physical activity. We can say that high-income participants have a high motivation to participate in physical activity. This situation can be said that individuals who do not have any physical anxiety easily think about the participation in physical activity in times that are increasing. Also, considering that the gyms are paid, these results are expected to come out.

There was no significant difference between the motivation to participate in physical activity according to the gender, age, place of residence and time to do sports (p>0.05). The motivation to participate in physical activity according to the income of the participants showed significant differences in the individual reason, reasonlessness sub-dimensions and the sub-dimension total score (p<0.05). As a result, it was seen that the age, gender and time to do sports of the participants did not affect the motivation to participate in physical activity. Only the financial income of the participants affects their motivation to participate in physical activity. We can say that high-income participants have high motivation to participate in physical activity. In this case, it can be said that individuals who do not experience financial anxiety easily think about participation in physical activity in their spare time. In addition, if we consider that gyms are paid, these results are expected.
