Belagat, sözün yerinde ve zamanında; muhatabına uygun olarak ifade edilmesine dair birtakım kuralları içeren disiplindir. Esas unsurunun söz olması nedeniyle dil ve dolayısıyla dil bilimi ile ilişkilidir. Dil biliminin üzerinde durduğu hususlardan biri de dilin ifade gücünü artırmaya yönelik girişimlerde bulunması olduğundan belagat ve dil bilimi birbiriyle yakın ilişki içinde olan iki disiplin olarak ortaya çıkmaktadır. Belagatin dil bilimiyle bir diğer ilgisi, alt kolları ve bu kollarda kullanılan terimler üzerindendir. Belagatin bütün alt birimlerine bağlı Arapça kökenli terimler için Türkçe terim önerme girişimleri olmuştur. Bu kollardan biri de fesahattir. Fesahat, kelimelerin telaffuzunun akıcı; anlamlarının da açık olması demektir. Bu çalışmada fesahat ve fesahate bağlı alt birimlerin Arapça kökenli terimlerine karşılık önerilen Türkçe terimlerin yapı ve anlam özellikleri üzerinde durulmuştur.
