Antineoplastic agents induce oxidative stress in biological systems. During cancer chemotherapy, oxidative stres is induced by numerous free radicals that can attack many cellular targets. Thereby, chemotherapy causes several side effects on biological system. In patients undergoing high-dose chemotherapy, the plasma antioxidant concentration has been shown to decrease. The use of anti-oxidants during chemotherapy may enhance therapy efficiency by reducing the generation of oxidative stress-induced radicals. In this review, the relation between chemotherapy, oxidative stres and antioxidants is evaluated.
