Emphasizing the modern texture of the city of Eskişehir with the Republican era, this article considers the examples of modern architecture produced in Eskişehir between 1894-1979 in the context of “modern architectural heritage”. In the process of evolving the traditional city to the modern city, Industrial zones are creating a driving force. Industrial settlements, enriched with various social facilities, establish an organic relationship with new organized residential areas on their periphery, physically and socio-culturally. Within this new urban context, new public functions took its place in the city in order to feed the new city’s lifestyle and new habits. On the one hand, this relationship was determining the physiognomy of the city; on the other, the modern history of the city, which started with the arrival of the railway in 1893, constitutes three different periods in terms of the architectural style and urban space organization. Throughout this process, all the structures and settlements produced by modern ideology and modern public areas emerge with “symbol” and “documentary”, “identity”, “architectural and technical”, “functional and economic”, “continuity”, “authenticity” and “integrity” values. It is emphasized that in all this textual structure, all the features of industrialization and Republic modernization were penetrated into the city, moreover the city starts to produce its own Modernity and as a result, all modern city-buildings and texture is a necessary modern architectural heritage.
