Abstract:

The present study aimed to determine the views of pre-service teachers on the impact of school experience course on the teaching profession in social studies education. The phenomenology desing, a qualitative research approach, was used in the study. The study was carried out with 30 pre-service teachers, 13 of which were female and 17 were male, and the participants were senior students attending Fırat University, Faculty of Education, Department of Social Studies Education during the 2018-2019 academic year fall semester. The study group was selected with convenience sampling, a purposive sampling method. An interview form was used as the data collection instrument. Content analysis method was used to analyze the research data and qualitative data analysis software was used. In the study, pre-service teachers generally considered the school experience course as a useful and necessary course, where theoretical knowledge could be applied, experience could be gained and as the first step in the profession. In conclusion, it was observed that school experience course was considered important and its impact on teaching profession was positive according to the views of pre-service teachers who participated in the study. Furthermore, pre-service teachers emphasized that the duration of the implementation was insufficient. School experience course should be extended in education teacher training.
