Abstract:

The possibilities and consciousness of today require efforts to preserve our historical and cultural assets, which enable us to connect with our past. In the world, and especially in the past twenty-five years, the contribution of corporate structures, the observed protection consciousness adopted in our country, as well as the transfer of the historical and cultural accumulations of communities to the future, as well as the continuity of cultural assets that are the builders of the city identity, is also important. In this context, the study focuses on the protection practices in the city of Gaziantep with important steps in the development process of protection consciousness on the international and local scale. Gaziantep is a historic city where many civilizations are located. The study aimed at exploring the steps taken towards the conservation of cultural assets of ancient civilizations located in the city. For this purpose; in the Gaziantep Castle and the historic city center surrounding, the construction process has been focused on the protection practices in the areas completed and open to use. In the framework of the study, 30 interviews were conducted in order to obtain the opinions of constant users and visitors in the relevant environment, and the opinions were collected on the implemented protection practices. The research has shown that protection practices have contributed to the improvement of the physical environment, the value and quality of the historic city center, the awareness creation and the economic strengthening of the city through tourism, and therefore have been successful, while road and infrastructure infrastructure deficiencies are still waiting for a solution. This study, in which the historical environmental consciousness is trying to be assessed, found that steps to solve the transportation problem should be taken in particular in order to ensure the sustainability of traditional historical tissues.
