This study aimed at comparing the score of the Y balance test (YDT) of Greco-Romanian (Gr) and Free-Style (Sr) competitors, identifying the relationships between the top and lower end balance points according to the competition style and determining the risk of injury. The study included 33 volunteers (Gr = 12, Sr = 21). The competitors were evaluated by the lower end Y balance test (AE YDT) and the upper end Y balance test (UE YDT). Gr and Sr’s AE and UE balance scores were used to analyze the relationship between MannWhitney U test and balance scores with Spearman’s rho. According to the findings obtained by Gr and Sr, the starrers in the style of AE YDT and UE YDT scores were similar. There was a significant difference between the styles in the lower length distances (p<0.05). Although the players in the Gr style did not have a meaningful relationship between the right/left AE YDT and the UE YDT scores, a medium relationship between the left AE and the UE YDT scores was found. In the Gr style fighters, there was no meaningful relationship between AE YDT and UE YDT scores. In terms of the right and left correlation of the Sr style fighters, AE YDT and UE YDT have found a strong relationship in terms of composite scores with all extension aspects. According to the results of the study, the competitors were able to adapt to the stress that the YDTs created and, despite being in the same sport industry in different styles, they got the same score. In addition, it is determined that athletes with similar composite scores receive different layer distances scores. We recommend that athletes with similar composite scores have different stretching distances to evaluate the risk of injury of athletes and to take into account the low stretching scores along with the composite scores for the planning of injury prevention programs, to use AE YDT and UE YDT together for competing athletes.
The aim of the this study, to compare the Y balance test (YBT) scores of greco-roman (Gr) and freestyle (Fr) wrestlers, to determine the relationships between upper and lower extremity balance scores according to the competition style, to determine the risk of injuries in wrestling athletes, and to determine the effect of wrestling in different styles on YBT scores. Thirty three volunteer wrestlers were enrolled into the study (Gr=12, Fr=21). Wrestlers were evaluated by lower extremity Y balance test (LEYBT) and upper extremity Y balance test (UEYBT). LE and UE balance scores of Gr and Fr wrestlers were compared by MannWhitney U test whereas Spearman's Rank Order Correlation Coefficient (Spearman’s rho) was used to analyze the correlation between balance scores. Findings obtained revealed that LEYBT and UEYBT scores of Gr and Fr wrestlers were similar. A significant difference was detected between styles for lower reach distances (p<0.05). Although there was not any significant correlation between left LEYBT and UEYBT scores and right LEYBT and UEYBT scores in Gr wrestlers, a moderately significant correlation was detected between left LE and UE YBT scores. No significant correlation was detected between LEYBT and UE YBT scores in Gr wrestlers. A strong correlation was found for all reach directions and composite scores of LE YBT and UEYBT, and right and left correlations in Fr wrestlers. Study results revealed that wrestlers may adopt the stress caused by YBT and they achieved similar scores even they are involved in the same sports branch with different styles. However, athletes with similar composite scores achieved different reach distance scores. We recommend that athletes with similar composite scores have different reach distances, considering the composite score together with the lower reach scores for assessment the injury risk of athletes and planning injury prevention programs, and using LE YBT and UE YBT together for wrestling athletes.
