Abstract:

Violence-related news such as police, judiciary, murder, and accidents have been published on the third page of daily newspapers in Turkey for many years. Therefore, as the only example where a news category in print media is synonymous with the page name, page 3 journalism has become an settled page of violence in daily newspapers. Until now, no academic study has been conducted on this topic within this context. With this importance, first the media and the phenomenon of violence are discussed and the place of violence in different media is emphasized. Subsequently, it has been considered beneficial to create a discussion environment with professionals in the context of third-page journalism. Within this framework, violence as an settled domain in print media, specifically within third-page journalism, has been explored through evaluations by professional journalists, encompassing both news selection and the concepts of media and violence. The editors-in-chief and news editors of Akşam, Hürriyet, Posta, Takvim, Türkiye, and Yeni Birlik newspapers participated in the study. The results obtained from the study are aimed to provide significant insights both in the context of journalism and media literacy.
