Abstract It addresses internal migration in the province of Havana after two decades of Decree-Law 217 of 1997, regulating immigration to the capital of the country, in the so-called space period after the disintegration of the European socialist camp. The effect of migratory movements is described between Major Administrative Units (DAM) and between the smaller ones (DAME), using census information from the 2002 and 2012 rounds conducted in Cuba, and of the continuous statistics referring to the year 2015. Moreover, the impacts and changes in the origin and destination of the movements from the modifications implemented in 2012 are analyzed. In this sense, there is an increase in the movements of entries, whose figures were only higher before the implementation of the decree.
