Devleti kuran hanedana mensup kişilerin iktidarı ele geçirmek amacıyla birbirlerini katletmeleri hadiseleri tarihî bir vakıadır. Tarih boyunca vuku bulan benzer olayların gerçekleşmemesine yönelik çözüm yollarının bulunamadığı ise ortadadır. Kırım Hanlığı tahtına sahip olmak amacıyla hanlığı kuran Giray hanedanı mensupları arasında da bu minvalde olayların cereyan ettiği söylenilebilir. 1514 senesinde Mengli Giray Han'ın ölmesi üzerine veliahdı olan en büyük oğlu Mehmed Giray'ın, Kırım hanı olduğunda kardeşlerini katlettiğine yönelik kayıtlar mevcuttur. Ancak mevcut kayıtlar bu husus hakkında tafsilatlı malumat içermemektedir. Dolayısıyla bu meselenin açıklığa kavuşturulması gerekmektedir. Bu çalışmada öncelikle Mehmed Giray'ın kardeşlerinin kimler olduğu tespit edilmiş, akabinde ise onun kardeşlerini öldürdüğüne yönelik ifadelerin doğruluğunun tetkikine gayret sarf edilmiştir. Bununla birlikte Mehmed Giray'ın Osmanlı padişahlarını örnek alarak kardeşlerini katlettiğine dair verilen beyanlar değerlendirilerek hakikatte bu hadisenin kökeninin nerede aranması gerektiği noktasında görüş belirtilmiştir.
It is a established historical fact that family members of dynasties that founded governments murdered each other in order to seize power for themselves. No remedial paths have been found to prevent similar events from occurring throughout history. This is equally true for the Girai Dynasty, whose members established their own khanate in order to assume the throne of Crimea. Records are available regarding the eldest son, Mehmed I Girai, who became heir to the thrown upon the death of his father Mengli Girai Khan in 1514, only to assassinate his siblings upon becoming the Crimean Khan. However, since the available records do not contain detailed information about this event, further investigation is necessary. This study first determines the identities of Mehmed I Girai's siblings and seeks to examine the accuracy of statements made regarding his alleged fratricide. Using the Ottoman Sultans as a basis, we evaluated the allegations made with regard to Mehmed I Girai's purported fratricide and have indicated from which advantage point this issue needs to be addressed.
