Edip Cansever Türk şiirinin modernist bir çizgi edinmesinde katkısı olan önemli isimlerinden biridir. Şiirleri ile olduğu kadar şiir üzerine yazıları ile de teorik ve poetik anlamda Türk şiirinin gelişmesine katkı sağlayan Cansever, hayatı sanatla anlamlandıran ve estetik modernist bir bakışla ömrünce kalemini elinden düşürmeyen bir isimdir. Şiiri düşünce, duygu, biçim ve anlam boyutlarının bir bileşimi olarak gören, uzun ve kısa şiirlerinde bu bileşimi oluşturmaya çalışan şair, diyalektik bir kavrayışa sahiptir. Modern bireyin yaşamını saran yalnızlık, yabancılaşma, boğuntu ve umutsuzluk duygularını derinlemesine işler. Fakat bireyin, kendilik bilincini bütünüyle bu unsurların egemenliğine bırakarak dağılmasını kabul etmez. Bu noktada modernliğin yol açtığı parçalılık bilincini işlevsel hale getirerek düşünceyi, umudu ve anlamı diyalektik görüşünün karşı ucuna yerleştirir. Biçimsel yenilik denemeleri eşliğinde gelişen modernist şiirin mutlak suretle dramatik ve düşünce boyutlarını taşıması gerektiğine inanır. Geleceğin şiirini kuracak olan anlayışı bu diyalektik duyuşta bulur. Bu bağlamda şiirde soyut-somut, anlamlılık-anlamsızlık, açıklık-kapalılık, bütünlük-bölünmüşlük, tek seslilik-çok seslilik tartışmaları hakkındaki görüşlerini özellikle süreli yayınlardaki yazıları ile açıklar. Bu zıtlık çiftlerini anlamlandırma noktasında okur düzeyinin ve beklenti ufkunun önemli bir belirleyici olduğunu savunur. Temelde “düşüncenin şiiri” çatısı altında geliştirdiği poetik bakışını hayatı sanatla anlamlandırma noktasında açımlar. Bu çalışmada Edip Cansever’in modernist şiirin dramatik ve düşünce boyutlarına dönük değerlendirmeleri tespit edilmeye çalışılmakta, şiir üzerine düşüncelerinin niteliği ve kapsamı, yazıları üzerinden takip edilerek sahip olduğu diyalektik kavrayışın poetik yansımaları araştırılmaktadır.
Edip Cansever is one of the important figures who contributed to Turkish poetry acquiring a modernist line. Cansever, who contributed to the development of Turkish poetry in the theoretical and poetic sense with his writings on poetry as well as with his poems, is a name who makes sense of life through art and who never drops his pen throughout his life with an aesthetic modernist perspective. The poet, who sees poetry as a combination of thought, emotion, form and meaning, and tries to create this combination in his long and short poems, has a dialectical understanding. He deals in depth with the feelings of loneliness, alienation, suffocation and despair that surround the life of the modern individual. However, he does not accept the disintegration of the individual by leaving his self-consciousness completely under the sovereignty of these elements. At this point, he functionalises the consciousness of fragmentation caused by modernity and places thought, hope and meaning at the opposite end of his dialectical vision. He believes that modern poetry, which develops in the company of attempts at formal innovation, must necessarily carry dramatic and intellectual dimensions. He finds the understanding that will establish the poetry of the future in this dialectical sensibility. In this context, he explains his views on abstract-concrete, meaningfulness-meaninglessness, openness-closedness, unity-dividedness, univocality-multivocality debates in poetry, especially through his articles in periodicals. He argues that the level of the reader and the horizon of expectation are important determinants in making sense of these pairs of opposites. Basically, he expands his poetic perspective, which he developed under the umbrella of “poetry of thought”, at the point of making sense of life through art. In this study, Edip Cansever’s evaluations of the dramatic and thought dimensions of modernist poetry are tried to be determined, the quality and scope of his thoughts on poetry are followed through his writings and the poetic reflections of his dialectical understanding are investigated.
