Abstract:

Purpose: The study aims to examine the validity and reliability of the Turkish form of the Self-Confidence Scale in Clean Intermittent Self-Catheterization. Materials and Methods: The sample of this methodological study consisted of 80 patients followed in the Urology Polyclinic of a training and research hospital in Istanbul between December 2018 and July 2019. Language equivalence of the scale was provided by translation-back translation techniques. The content validity was evaluated with Content Validity Index (CVI). The construct validity was determined with explaratory factor analysis using varimax rotation. The reliability of the scale, the time durability and internal consistency (Cronbach alpha and item analysis) coefficient were evaluated by examining. Results: The content validity of theTurkish form version of the scale was found appropriate (KGI=0.85). When the construct validity was evaluated, Kaiser Meyer Olking (KMO) value was found to be 0.844 and Barlett's Test Chi Square Value was 1932.52 (p<0.001). In the factor analysis evaluation, it was determined that, similar to the original scale, it showed a one-dimensional structure that explained 76.32% of the total variance. The scale's total Cronbach alpha coefficient was 0.89, item total score correlations were between 0.66 and 0.95, and test-retest reliability coefficient was 0.75. Conclusion: The findings obtained from the analyzes made to adapt the Self Confidence Scale in Clean Intermittent Self-Catheterization to the Turkish community showed that the Turkish form of the scale is a reliable and valid tool in examining patients' self-confidence regarding clean intermittent catheterization.
