Magistral medication is freshly prepared in community pharmacies according to doctor’s prescription. Nowadays, they are rarely prepared because most of factory made medications are easily accessible and magistrals are nearly forgotten. Smaller and unfunctional pharmacy laboratories as well as prescribing factory made medications by doctors more than before, play a huge role on this fact. These two factors trigger each other. In course of time, this makes the magistrals become unavailable. It is not possible to see magistrals nowadays, except a couple of formulations which are prescribed especially by dermatologists. Even though, factory made medications are easy to provide, they are standard preprations and in some point of view, they are less patient oriented then magistrals. Magistrals are specifically precribed to each patient and prepared in pharmacies according to the doctor’s own recipe. Also these type of medications are adventageous for pharmacist in terms of showing their professional knowledge and proving themselves. During the period of time when magistrals are prescribed commonly, pharmacies have two seperated zones, named prescription acceptance and preparation. A small window connects them with each other. Prescriptions are taken from this window and after the preparation, magistrals are given to from the same window. Drogs which have their French or Latin names on them, are stored in wooden boxes and drawers. Oinments and extracts are kept in porcelain pots while liquids and oils are stored in glass ones. They have French names on their pots too. The configuration and setup of a modern pharmacy compared to former ones, could be used as a measurement to see how magistrals are forgotten. In this study, we used prescription record book of the Sumer Pharmacy (Kayseri) which was very popular in its time. Some magistral formulations that are recorded in December 1962, are going to be presented.
