Abstract Human beings benefited from the wide variety of plants in treatments of diseases until synthetic drugs found and used efficiently in therapies. They not just used only leaves, roots or other certain parts of these of plants, they also obtained plant oils, resins, dry powder products from these plants as a result of various operations and used them in therapies. With developing industry synthetic drugs can produced cheaper with certain standards and as a result the importance of herbal products had reduced. Today, the importance and use of herbal products have increased again as a result of decreasing confidence to synthetic drugs and with the guidance of the media's effect of the people who believe that everything is harmless if they are natural. The use herbal products for medical purposes with not enough clinical data brings many problems. The use of herbal products in risk groups such as pregnant women, children and the elderly, herb-drug interactions and the lack of quality of herbal products on the market are the major problems. In this study, some problems about commonly used herbal products were examined and a review is made in order to produce some solutions to these problems in the light of scientific knowledge.
