Abstract The aim of this study was to identify the contents worked in physical education classes of the 8th and 9th years of elementary school, from central schools in a city in the south of Rio Grande do Sul, and their relationship with BNCC. It is characterized by being a descriptive study, developed in five central schools, based on two axes: a) questionnaire with students; b) interview with physical education teachers. From the analysis of the research corpus, it was observed the predominance of classical sports modalities and a positive opinion on the part of the students in relation to the classes and contents taught in them. The participating teachers claimed to know little about the BNCC and feel unprepared for its implementation, highlighted the lack of discussion and construction of proposals of this type, along with the teachers who are working in the school environment.
