Abstract:

Objective: Discharge training is important in terms of preparing the patient for daily activities after surgery and improving quality of life. The aim of this study is to determine the satisfaction of discharge education of patients who underwent urological surgery and the factors affecting it.. Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out with the participation of 136 patients who underwent surgery in the urology clinic of a university hospital between January 1 and August 31, 2022. Patient information form and Discharge Education Satisfaction Scale were used for data collection. Mann Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis test, Spearman Correlation analysis and Mann Whitney U test with Bonferroni correction were used in data analysis. Results: It was determined that the mean age of the patients was 57.7±15.0 (18-81) years, 74.3% of them were male. The mean score of the patients on the Discharge Education Satisfaction Scale was found to be 90.0±15.0. The highest sub-dimension mean score was found during the discharge process (13.7±1.8 significance level: 4.57) and the lowest sub-dimension score average was home care (28.6±6.6 significance level: 4.08). It was determined that the patients' Discharge Education Satisfaction Scale mean scores differed statistically according to age (p=0.016) and postoperative hospital stay (p=0.029). Conclusion: The patients' satisfaction level from discharge was found to be high. It was determined that the increase in age and the duration of hospitalization after surgery negatively affected the satisfaction of the patients from discharge.
