Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to examine how attitude to use social media and the perceived parental attitudes predict academic procrastination behavior of high students. The sample of the study consisted of 402 (191 female, 211 male) high students from various high schools in Urgup. Data collection instruments were Social Media Attitude Scale, Parental Attitudes Scale, Academic Procrastination Scale and Demographic Information Form. T-test, One Way ANOVA, Thame test and Standard multiple regression analysis technique were used in the analysis of the data. The findings showed that academic procrastination behaviors of male students were significantly higher than that of female students, and the academic procrastination behaviors of students who used social media for more than 6 years were significantly higher than students who used social media for 1-3 years. In addition, it was observed that the protective-demanding attitude from the parents' attitudes and the need for sharing and social isolation from the social media attitudes significantly predicted the academic procrastination behavior.
